git filter-repo is a versatile tool for rewriting history, which includes capabilities I have not found anywhere else. It roughly falls into the same space of tool as git filter-branch but without the capitulation-inducing poor performance, with far more capabilities, and with a design that scales usability-wise beyond trivial rewriting cases. git filter-repo is now recommended by the git project instead of git filter-branch.

A force push occurs when developers overwrite commit history, which often contains mistakes, like hard-coded credentials.     It merges upstream changes by default, when it&amp;#039;s really more polite to rebase over them, unless your collaborators enjoy a commit graph that looks like bedhead.
    It only updates the branch you&amp;#039;re currently on, which means git push will shout at you for being behind on branches you don&amp;#039;t particularly care about right now.

Solve them once and for all.]]>
