I think all technical writers, at some point or another, feel the urge to base their work on something more systematic than “it’s just the way folks documented stuff since forever”. Toolkits and frameworks provide content types, which is immensely valuable when you know what you want to write, but starting from there is like buying a hammer without knowing that half of the work you’ll do is turning screws. As I find the lack of deeper conversation around this topic rather unsettling, I decided to contribute some verses.
OwnTone is an open source (audio) media server for GNU/Linux, FreeBSD and macOS.
It allows sharing and streaming your media library to iTunes (DAAP1), Roku (RSP), AirPlay devices (multi-room), Chromecast and also supports local playback.
You can control OwnTone via its web interface, Apple Remote (and compatible DAAP/DACP clients), MPD clients or via its JSON API.
Besides serving your local music, podcast and audiobook media files, OwnTone supports internet radios and Spotify (requires Spotify premium account).

monetr is a budgeting application focused on planning for recurring expenses.

Tdarr V2 is a cross-platform conditional based transcoding application for automating media library transcode/remux management in order to process your media files as required. For example, you can set rules for the required codecs, containers, languages etc that your media should have which helps keeps things organized and can increase compatability with your devices. A common use for Tdarr is to simply convert video files from h264 to h265 (hevc), saving 40%-50% in size.
